If you wanted to eat the world’s largest fruit snack, you’d have had to been in Kelowna . . . and also a kid. Read about that and nine more food records set in Canada.
Would you believe that Loblaws holds the record for world’s largest naan bread? It’s true. And at the event where they were presented their world record, the naan, weighing in at 32 kg, was eaten by spectators in like 30 minutes, so it must’ve been pretty good. Note: Guinness refers to it as naan bread instead of just naan. It ain’t us!
Pete Czerwinski (aka Furious Pete) of Mississauga holds this record, having eaten six Cadbury crème eggs in a minute. And if that number sounds small, you’re welcome to try yourself. We couldn’t do more than three.
10.13 tonnes is a lot of ice cream cake. The cake wasn’t just ice cream, fortunately. It also included sponge cake, buttercream frosting, and Oreo crumbles. The cake was assembled by Dairy Queen Canada and served up to guests at Yonge-Dundas Square.
If you’re a Canadian kid, no doubt you hold a special place in your heart for Sun-Rype fruit snacks. Based in Kelowna, the company created the world’s largest fruit snack, measuring 91.44 meters. The whole thing weighed in at 14 kilograms. The snack was enjoyed by several hundred very lucky kids.
Would the Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada logo be improved if it were made out of canned food? Well, they went and did it anyway. They used 9,000 cans of food to create a 59.30 m3 version of their logo. After bagging the world record, they donated all the canned goods to food banks.
If you want to beat the world record for the longest line of candy canes, you’ll have to gather up more than 7,735 of them. That’s how many World Vision Canada arranged in a row in Hamilton in 2016. It measured 1,030.14 metres long.
Fizzy drinks are supposed to be cold, right? Well, we agree, but Coca-Cola didn’t. They invented Canada Dry Hot Ginger Ale, which is cinnamon and apple flavoured, and sold it in Japan. They picked up a world record for doing so, but it isn’t clear if the beverage is still on sale.
You’d think that Italy would want this record back. In 2014, Loblaws locations across Canada all simultaneously cracked open wheels of Parmesan cheese. A total of 1,209 wheels were cracked, winning them a world record.
What do you need to make the world’s largest smoothie? 70 watermelons, 200 cantaloupes, 50 cases of bananas, 950 containers of yoghurt, and like . . . a whole lot of berries. Blend it all together and you get a smoothie that’s 3,121.7 litres. Created by volunteers at McGill during Frosh Week in 2015, the smoothie fed 5,000 students. A further 1,000 litres went to a homeless shelter.
