Must-See TV and Movies This April

Action, adventure, crime, and murder – and we haven’t even hit the summer blockbuster season! April TV and movies are full of twists and turns. These are our top picks for the month.

Lovebirds – Cineplex, April 3

When an unsuspecting couple (Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani) somehow find themselves involved in a murder mystery, they spend the night trying to clear their names – and figure out how their relationship will survive. Lovebirds feels like a comedic spin on the critically acclaimed drama Queen & Slim. We’re willing to grab some popcorn and see how it plays out.

Home before Dark – Apple TV+, April 3

Inspired by Hilde Lysiak, the 12-year-old Pennsylvania native who was first to break a local murder case in her own newspaper, Orange Street News. She’s also the youngest member of the Society of Professional Journalists, and the youngest person in the US to deliver a university commencement speech. This one proves that there’s no inspiration greater than real life.

Insecure – HBO, April 12

Despite multiple roles in films like Lovebirds and executive producing A Black Lady Sketch Show, Issa Rae always has time for her baby: the Emmy award–winning Insecure. Things shift in Issa’s personal and professional life, and we’re given new insights into how she’ll make it all work.

Run – Crave, April 12

We’ll watch anything created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and writing partner Vicky Jones: here’s another offering from the Fleabag and Killing Eve duo. This comedic thriller follows Ruby (played by Merritt Wever) and Billy (played by Domhnall Gleeson), two old flames who finally make good on a years-old pact.

The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart – ABC, April 13

The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart is a new spin on what is now a reality TV classic. This show tracks single men and women, all of whom are either musicians or working in the music industry. So, yes, you guessed it – their dates will be music-themed. The couples challenges will be musical, too, including nerve-racking live performances for famous musicians.

What We Do in the Shadows – FX, April 15

The wacky vampire comedy from Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) is back for a second season. We can’t wait to see what Nadja, Laszlo, and Guillermo get up to this season!

Killing Eve – Crave, April 26

More PWB goodness hits TV this month! Season 3 of this action-packed cat-and-mouse drama is back! After last season’s cliffhanger, we’ve been chomping at the bit for the new season to start. We need to know: is Villanelle dead or alive? And what will Eve do about it?

2020 Billboard Music Awards – NBC, April 29

Music lovers know that the Billboard Music Awards is just as important as the Grammys, if not more so. The Billboard’s winners come from a 12-month reporting period that tracks sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring, even social engagement. With amazing performances by a ton of artists, get ready for a three-hour concert from your living room!
