Our October Must-See TV and Movies

October is a superstar-studded month  on both the big and small screens! These are our top picks – which shows will you be setting reminders for?

Gemini Man – Cineplex, October 11

Will Smith is an aging elite hitman on the brink of retirement in this sci-fi thriller. But before he leaves, he has one last mission: to face a younger clone of himself who’s hired to take him out – someone who knows all of his moves before he even has a chance to make them.

Joker – Cineplex, October 4

After the incredible trailer for this flick, we can’t wait to see more of Joaquin Phoenix in the title role. Here’s the standalone story we didn’t know we needed, about Arthur Fleck, the alter-ego of Batman’s arch-nemesis, the Joker, a man pushed aside by society, and his descent into madness.

Peaky Blinders – Netflix, October 4

Season five releases on Netflix in early October and revisits what happens when the world is thrown into crisis during the onset of the financial turmoil of 1929. What do you do when powerful politicians ask for your help?

Madam Secretary – Global, October 6

The sixth season of the incredible drama Madam Secretary returns for its grand finale. We’ll be on the lookout for the many cast changes that have been forecast for this final season.

Modern Love – Amazon Prime, October 18

Based on the New York Times column of the same name, Modern Love follows eight love stories originally published in the column. Likely the most star-studded new web series this year, it features Anne Hathaway, Dev Patel, Tina Fey, Andy Garcia, Julia Garner, John Slattery, and more, examining relationships in all their complicated and poignant forms.

Living with Yourself – Netflix, October 18

Burned out and exhausted by love and life, Miles undergoes a new self-improvement treatment at the spa. When he realizes the treatment has replaced him with a new and improved “Miles,” he has to deal with the consequences. Twice the Paul Rudd in one series by the directors of Little Miss Sunshine? We’re so in.

Catherine the Great – Crave/HBO, October 21

Two words: Helen Mirren. We’re not sure you need more than that to know that this miniseries will be worth checking out. Mirren takes the throne of the historic Catherine the Great, the Russian empress who, alongside her military commander lover, moulded her country into a future world superpower.

NBA Regular Season – TSN, October 22

After this year’s intense championships, we can’t wait to get back to watching the boys on the court. Tipoff happens on October 22 with the defending champions, the Toronto Raptors, hosting the championship ring ceremony before taking on the New Orleans Pelicans at the Scotiabank Arena.

Stick around, though, because immediately after, 2019 Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, now of the Los Angeles Clippers, will host the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center for an exciting opening night.

Baroness von Sketch Show – CBC, October 30

Not only will season four of this award-winning sketch comedy series air once more this October – it’s already been early-renewed for season five! Get on board with this hilarious series written by and starring Carolyn Taylor, Meredith MacNeill, Aurora Browne, and Jennifer Whalen.

Not sure if these means a super month that is star-studded, in which case it’s fine, or a month studded with superstars, in which case it should be “superstar-studded” here and in social post #2.
