What would a mix tape be without some of the greatest hits from Quebec, one of the richest sources of awesome Canadian pop music in the ’80s and ’90s?
“Donne-Moi Ma Chance” – Les B.B. (1991)
Are Les B.B. as special to you as they are to us? They are one of the province’s most successful acts of the ’80s and ’90s, after all.
“Bye Bye Mon Cowboy” – Mitsou (1988)
An enduring favourite across Canada, Mitsou’s biggest hit is in our permanent rotation.
“Ziggy (Un garçon pas comme les autres)” – Celine Dion (1991) The racy hit that took Dion from child-star to adult contemporary. We finally saw her as the woman she was becoming.
“Because You Loved Me” – Celine Dion (1996)
Even if this tune is one of her most maudlin, it was Dion’s first and most important English hit, the one that officially marked her crossover to international superstar.
“Hélène” – Roch Voisine (1989)
The title track to his first major album, this song cemented his fame in Quebec and became the gateway to his success in French Canada and beyond.
“I’ll Always Be There” – Roch Voisine (1993)
Voisine’s biggest English language ballad arrived only two years after his breakout in Quebec. We can still sing it word for word, while we dance with our greatest loves.
“Illégal” – Marjo avec Corbeau (1982)
A combination of musical genius we live for in Quebecois pop.
“1990” – Jean Leloup (1990)
Colourful, unique, and loved internationally, Leloup just had to be on the list!
“Billy” – Julie Masse (1990)
This was one of Juno Award winner Julie Masse’s greatest hits; she went on to record with another Canadian legend, Corey Hart. Their legendary musical partnership led to their best collaboration when they married.
“Animal” – France D’Amour (1992)
Can you believe this album turned 27 this year? We still love this certified gold single.
“Laisse-Moi la Chance” – France D’Amour (1992)
Another solid hit from our one of our favourite rockers, D’Amour. We can’t choose just one.
“C’est Pas Perdu” – Marie Carmen (1989)
We love the super bouncy rock of Marie Carmen. It always made us grab a hairbrush and sing in our rooms.
“Charcoal” – Richard Desjardins (1998)
That scratchy, deep voice! We listened hard to the poetry of this tune.
“Danser pour Danser” – Martine Chevrier (1989)
La, la, la, heeey, heeeey, oooohhh! Turn this one UP!
“Malade” – Noir Silence (1997)
This late-’90s power ballad is our perfect go-to karaoke song.
