May’s Must-See TV & Movies

The month of May, that sweet time between hibernation and full-on patio season! We’re warming up for more summery extravaganzas, and to us that means season finales, summer blockbuster movies, the most intense sporting events of the year, and the TV equivalent to a beach read – reality romance shows.

The Big Bang Theory – CBS, May 16

It’s an emotional time for fans of The Big Bang Theory as the series comes to a close after entertaining us for 12 years.

The hour long finale episode will be followed by the season finale of Young Sheldon, and then followed by a trip down Big Bang memory lane on a special series follow up, Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell, the special — hosted by series stars Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco which will air at 9:30pm.

The Kentucky Derby – TSN, May 2

Don your most over-the-top hat, crush the ice for some mint juleps, and drape your door with a wreath of red roses to celebrate the heart it takes to make it into the Kentucky Derby Winner’s Circle! This year is the 144th anniversary of the horse race known as “The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports.”

The Bachelorette – City TV, May 13

OK, we know it’s cheesy and formulaic but we can’t help ourselves. We love The Bachelorette! And Hanna B looks like she’s both so endearingly funny – and working by her own rules. Just check out the newest trailer.

Fleabag – Amazon Prime, May 17

This third season wasn’t even supposed to happen. Last year the show’s creator thought she’d wrapped Fleabag, but after resounding critical success and scooping multipleawards we’re getting season 3!

If you haven’t had a chance to pick up this British TV phenom, now’s the time.  It’s funny, dark, dramatic, and full of the anger, confusion, and humour you might imagine – but never actually expect – from a woman making her way through life in London.

US PGA Tournament – TSN, May 16–19

Set your reminders! This tournament is traditionally played in August, but this year marks its move to the weekend before Memorial Day, where it will remain. This year’s USA PGA event marks the 101st tournament, and will be held at Bethpage State Park Black Course in Farmingdale, New York.

Aladdin – in theatres May 24

Guy Ritchie lending his touch to the live action version of this Disney favourite? Get ready for a jaw-droppingly colourful magic carpet ride! And with Will Smith as the Genie? We know he’ll do his best to fill the shoes of the irreplaceable Robin Williams, while giving it a signature Fresh Prince flair. Check out the trailer. It’s absolutely stunning.

US Women’s Golf Open – TSN, May 30 – June 2

The 74th Women’s Open will be hosted on the challenging terrain and courses at the Country Club of Charleston. This is the second time the club has hosted the USGA, the last time being the Women’s Amateur Championship in 2013. The competition is intense. We can’t wait to see who prevails!
